Dear Parents,
Happy Monday! I can't believe this is the last week of March and spring break is just around the corner.
I would like to give a shout out to the following families: Mason, Samuel, Gianna, Avery, Wyatt, Abby for donating snacks to our class!! Mason and Gracie's family for donating extra money towards our field trip for kids in need. I don't know who all donated to "Jump Rope for Heart" BUT...I do know from Coach Aycock that we excelled beyond our goal, because of families like you! My students and I are very lucky to be surrounded by an awesome community! Thank you for teaching our children kindness and giving back! You're all amazing! :) ALSO...thank you for spoiling me with Lysol wipes! We all know we can never be "extra" clean in the classroom! So very grateful for this!
Couple updates for this week:
We have "GALACTIC" games this FRIDAY! Please come to school in the color blue to show your school spirit! We are currently in first and second place, back and forth. Let's seize the day! Carpe Diem and stay at number 1!
The Shuttle Supply Challenge is this week! The shuttle that brings the most supply wins shuttle points! Atlantis has been assigned to bring "shaving cream." You can purchase this at Walmart or Dollar store if you wish to participate. I think it's 98 cents this week at Walmart (someone told me, not sure).
Please continue to have your children practice the GA MILESTONE PRACTICE TEST. You can click on "tutorial" then the practice test so that you have an idea how the GA Milestone will look like. Reading and vocabulary will weigh about 53% of the GA reading test and 47% will be writing and grammar. GA Milestone MATH: Operations & Algebraic Thinking 25%, Numbers and Operations Base Ten and Fractions 35%, Measurement Data 30%, Geometry 10%. This gives you an idea how much each of the sections weigh.
Mrs. Layfield has generously agreed to make each of our children a grammar packet to review before the Georgia Milestone. It is a simple 10 question multiple choice practice test on EVERYTHING that I've taught this year in 3rd grade. That will be distributed to your child before spring break. They can work on it up to the actual Milestone test, so please do not worry. I will leave it up to you in completing this and holding your child accountable at home. I will tell them it's due that Friday before the Milestone test. Let me know if you have any questions. Please also have them continue to practice on Myon and Education Galaxy during spring break.
We have been doing the Ready Interim Review on the units we have studied this year. I will have the corrected packets returned home and in your child's Tuesday folder tomorrow.
Please sign the math/reading test and the report card envelops, and return them before Friday of this week. I would greatly appreciate it.
Our next field trip is to "Consolidated Gold MIne" on Monday, May 7th. I have the following chaperones confirmed: Ms. Henry, Ms. Layfield, and Ms. Morris. Chaperone papers will go home in your child's Tuesday folder. Remember that it is $18 per child and adult. Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions about this as well. :)
We will start the "Economic Project" that is coming up in the next couple weeks. I have attached a parent letter in regards to this project. I will write more about it after spring break. :)
Lastly, I will be distributing the Unit 9 Math Study Guide tomorrow. Please go over the problems with your child. I will go over the study guide packet on Wednesday and they will take the Unit 9 test on Thursday. After this unit, there will be the 2D classification of rectangle and triangle. Then Unit 5, which will focus on picture and bar graph. Both should be fairly easy. I will try and give the study guides out for Unit 10 and 5, before spring break. I would like to give the final Unit 10 and 5 before the Milestone so that our children will have learned everything and then I can go back and review, possibly teach some 4th grade math concept to prepare for next year after the milestone test.
This is A LOT of information. I am here for you. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks again for your partnership and your support!
Sincerely,
MRS. JULIE TSAI, M.Ed.
