Welcome to another fabulous week in February. There is no school this Friday, 2/16, Monday 2/19, and Tuesday, 2/20 in honor of our former President's Birthday.
Please stay informed by reading my email, blog, and newsletter that is sent home every Tuesday as well as my teacher's page on Weebly and "Itslearning."
Valentine's Day is this Wednesday. Some of you have already brought your Valentines and boxes as well. Remember I will have bags available for those who wish to use that instead. A class list was in your child's Tuesday Folder last week, let me know if you need another one.
I am in the process of completing the grades for Unit 7 Math Test and Unit 6 Ready Test. I apologize for the delay. They should both be completed by tomorrow. Unit 8 is currently scheduled for 2/26 if the weather permits and Unit 9 will be around the first week of March, 3/7.
We will be done with the Ready book. After we complete the interim, I will begin preparing your children for the Georgia Milestone. The plan is to use sample questions from the Parent Study Guide and review both literary and non literary elements to gear up for the test. I have set a link for the GA Milestone Parent Study Guide on my itslearning page as well as other resources. I apologize for having two teacher's website. My goal is to gradually transition from Weebly to Itslearning. I'm still learning about this application.
Please remember to sign your child's reading log for February and making sure they are reading at least 60 minutes to 100 minutes a week. Our goal as a class is to attend the Movie at the end of the February as 100% complete! They can read on Myon or their "Just Right" book at their F&P reading level. The "home folder" can stay in your child's backpack. The Tuesday folder will continue to go home every Tuesday and returned on Friday.
I have begun my "Cabinet" aka leadership program in the classroom. This is something I designed to teach students how to govern and be a leader in the classroom. I am sure you have heard all kinds of story by now. This program was designed by me to select students who show an interest in leadership and under my guidance in the classroom. I allow them a full experience and participate what is like to be a leader working beside me and take control of a classroom. I know some of you may doubt about your child being apart of this program, believe me, I tried it with my 5th graders, it wasn't perfect, but it really gave them a reason to behave more proper and better. Also, why teachers govern the way they do. Some students learn, and unfortunately, some doesn't. I wanted to provide this opportunity for those who want to experience leadership to the fullest and the class also have a say in how they react and interact with the cabinets. I want to experiment and see if 3rd graders can handle this. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns because sometimes things may happen between children that I may not know about and I am always here for you. Students know that I know their personalities, so I am there for them as well. Let me know if you have any questions about this program.
Please support your children by providing a headphone or earphone of their own. You can reuse this for the next few years of school. I will not keep them. This way, they can listen to ebooks at school and reuse the headphones daily.
We are currently in need of classroom snacks (I am literally cleaned out, lol). As well as Ziploc Gallon and Quart bags if you could please contribute. I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for your partnership as always! Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tsai
