Dear Parents,
I hope you had a nice long weekend with your family! Let me update you on a few things that are happening this week.
First of all, my Forsyth Homepage is being constructed currently. I will keep that page simple and brief and add links from this website to there. My goal is to provide you with as much information as I can in regards to school and classroom activities.
This week we will have a "Fun Run Pep Rally" on Tuesday to prepare for "Boosterthon" that will take place on Friday, 9/15 from 10:30am to 1:30pm.
Picture Day is this Wednesday, 9/6 and our time is schedule at 11:50am. You should have received a photo order in your child's Tuesday folder last week. If you need another one, please let me know.
Homework on Education Galaxy for all subjects will be provided and personalized for your child soon! We are in the process of taking the diagnostic test for each subject. We have finished Reading and Math last week. I hope that we can complete the three remaining subjects this week (Language Arts, Science, and Math). There is never a winning formula for the amount of homework given at home. At Silver City, we do have a "no homework" policy. However, I have suggested "Education Galaxy" and Khan Academy for additional math resources. We also adopt "IReady" books for reading and there is always "Homework Buddy" from Envision Math that you could ask your child to practice their math facts. I will continue to link academic games on my educational links page and you can ask your child to work on any subject apps there. Thanks for your patience as I evaluate the amount of work that your child will be able to handle. Lastly, please always remind them to read 30 minutes or more a day. By now, they should have picked out their "just right" books as well as the leveled books in their reading basket at school. I am asking my students to leave their leveled books at school so that I can do "Guided Reading" in our small groups. I will remind them again to not take it home.
We will also begin our Daily 5 rotation this week and a special math session with Ms. Auten in the Math Cafe on Wednesday! We will also begin our "Learning Launch" on Tuesday, where we divide up all the 3rd graders based on standards they need extra help in and give them an extra boost of teaching to reach mastery. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.
Our very 1st field trip will be on Friday, 9/22 to the Funk Heritage Center. A flier will be sent home this week and all the cost and other information you will need to know for this field trip. I can have 3 chaperones. Please click on FIELD TRIP if you are interested in coming with us. It will be on a first come first serve basis.
Thanks again for all of your support! Have an awesome week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tsai
