Dear Parents,
Happy Monday! Welcome to the last week of the month! Time flies when you are having fun! A few quick reminders...on Wednesday, 8/30 is an early release day. School is dismissed at 12:30pm. Please review your child's transportation needs and let me know how I can support you in making sure they arrive home safely. Please always remember to write me a note or fill out the orange transportation note in regards to any transportation changes for that day or longer. Thank you for helping me take care of "our" kids.
I would like to personally invite you to our "Curriculum Night" from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. The 3rd grade teachers and I have put together a solid presentation to inform you about the various programs that are happening at Silver City! Please come and allow us to address any issues, concerns, or questions that you may have in regards to our curriculum for third grade. It will be a fun night!
Couple quick reminders...if you are interested in filing papers and organize them for my Tuesday folders, please remember to fill out and sign a "Confidentiality Form." If you didn't get the chance to do so, no worries! Ms. Meredith is ready to hand you a form with a big smile and welcome you to the team!
Book order catalogs have arrived! You can order your books online at your convenience! Help build our classroom library! Catalogs for grades 2 and 3 is the "LUCKY" catalog and "ARROW" catalog is catered to mainly 4th through the 6th grade level. Ask your child what their current reading level is at and if he/she would like to challenge themselves by reading a couple levels up, let them! Make sure you remind them if they are reading these type of books at home, to create a "Writer's Dictionary." Have them take a notebook and write words down that are unknown. Ask them to look it up, define the word, and what part of speech does it belong to. Then ask them to use it in a sentence. I will be implementing a "WORD A DAY" program in my class soon as well as spelling and "paragraph editing."
They are old enough to start a daily journal! Ask them to write, write, and write more at home. Write about school, their trips on the weekends. We are currently working on narrative writing. This is a great opportunity for them to narrate stories from 1st person point of view and learning to write "true stories."
As for homework, please continue to ask them log into their "Education Galaxy" or "Khan's Academy" that will personalize and make their homework fun to complete.
Lastly, please refer to our food policy at Silver City. Any time we have class parties, all food items that are brought from home must be store bought. I apologize in advance if I ever need to send any home goods back home.
Thank you for being such an advocate in your children's lives. I always tell my students that they are so lucky to have you!
Please feel free to call or send me an email in regards to any questions, concerns, or suggestions that you may have! Please have an awesome week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tsai
